Student visa

Legal advice on residence permits for students in Denmark and assistance with the application process.

Are you planning to study in Denmark and need to clarify your basis for residence? AYA Legal Group advises on residence permits for students, often referred to as student visas, and assists with preparing and submitting applications.

Residence based on studies

The relevant scheme depends on the type of education, such as higher education, basic or upper secondary education, or a folk high school course. EU/EEA and Swiss citizens follow the EU rules on residence documents.

For higher education, you must be admitted to a full-time programme, understand the language of instruction and document financial support. The programme and institution must meet the relevant approval requirements.

How we can assist

  • Assessing which scheme fits your education and circumstances.
  • Reviewing your admission letter, passport and financial documentation.
  • Preparing and submitting the application as agreed.
  • Corresponding with SIRI and handling requests for further information.
  • Advising on extensions, changing programmes and options after graduation.

Working alongside your studies

The right to work depends on the programme’s approval and when you applied. A student residence permit therefore does not always include permission to work. Your residence card states your specific work rights. We can assist in clarifying the conditions that apply to you.

Preparing your application

We start with your programme, proposed start date and current residence status. Together, we review what needs to be clarified and which documents are required. Before work begins, we agree the scope of our assistance and our fees.

Send us a brief description of your circumstances and your admission letter, if you already have one. We can then discuss the next steps.

Processing time

For a first-time application for higher education, SIRI normally states 2 months, or up to 3 months if further information is needed. Other study schemes may have different times.

This is the authority’s published estimate, not a guarantee for your case. It may change.
